If you’re like me, you can’t let go of that pinching feeling of anxiety today. The one where your stomach won’t let go, no matter how hard you try to block it out.
And that’s because it’s time. The day has come. The moment where “good enough” is never “good enough”. Where “letting up” means “letting go”. Where each shift, pass, bounce, shot, hit and stride matters. Where the hearts, passion, and collective minds of the players in teal will be up against the wall, pushed to the limit against the famed juggernaut squad of red and white.
The gravity of tonight’s game will no doubt weigh heavily as one of the most memorable earmarks in the dusted pages of Sharks twenty-year history. Whether they sink or swim, it will be a moment testing the strength of this organization’s ability to overcome adversity, fend off the east-coast biased media and its disbelieving hockey pundits, and shred the dreaded “playoff-choker” label. At 6pm tonight, the Sharks will go up against one of the most dangerous and storied franchises in the NHL where they will fight to defend their dignity, poise, composure, and place amongst the best of today’s NHL franchises.
If they win, this year could be one of the most storied and oft-talked about playoff runs in Sharks history. Lose, and they’ll indelibly be placed amongst the slew of disgraced playoff chokers. There is no middle ground, there is no consolation, there is no second chance. There is only now.
It don’t matter how they got here. It don’t matter how it started. It only matters how it will end. And tonight is the night.
My fellow (and honorary) San Jose brethren, may we fucking bleed teal tonight.
